Lewiston Daycare Operator Charged After Accusations of Striking a Toddler, Instructing Staff to Hide Injury

LEWISTON, ID – A Lewiston woman has been charged with felony injury to a child following allegations made by former staff members of an in-home daycare in the Lewiston Orchards.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Nez Perce County on July 22, 2025, the allegations stem from an incident in February 2024 at a home daycare operated by 45-year-old Taunia D. Hosking. A former employee told police that a two-year-old child was spanked with such force that a red handprint was left on the child’s skin. The employee said Hosking allegedly instructed staff to apply an ice pack to the injury to conceal it before the child’s parents arrived.

Other former employees also reported a pattern of inappropriate disciplinary practices at the daycare, including flicking, spanking, dragging children by the arm, and administering medication without parental consent.

The parent of the two-year-old confirmed to police that she had observed the red mark on her child and was told by Hosking that the child had “bumped into something,” or something to that effect. The parent said she later withdrew her child from the daycare and told police she was interested in pursuing charges.

According to the affidavit, Hosking denied any wrongdoing during an interview with detectives in May 2025 and claimed the employees were not being truthful.

Hosking has been charged with felony injury to a child. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 20.
