Suspect Shot and Killed After Stabbing two Police Officers in Oregon

SPRINGFIELD, OR – A suspect was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon following an altercation that left two Springfield Police officers seriously injured, according to a statement from the Springfield Police Department.

The incident began at approximately 2:37 p.m. on July 30, when officers responded to reports of a disorderly individual inside a business near Gateway Street and Beltline Road. An officer located the suspect nearby, in the area of Gateway Street and Kruse Way.

According to police, the suspect brandished two knives and threatened the officer, who then called for backup. During the encounter, the suspect stabbed two Springfield Police officers, causing what officials described as significant injuries.

Oregon State Police Troopers arrived to assist. During the effort to arrest the suspect, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but the suspect died from injuries at the scene.

Both injured Springfield Police officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not been publicly disclosed.

The investigation is ongoing.
