ASOTIN COUNTY, WA – A wind-driven vegetation fire that burned approximately 50 acres north of Anatone late Thursday night has been fully contained, according to fire officials on scene.

The fire was first reported around 11:00 p.m. on July 31, with Blue Mountain Fire crews dispatched to the area of Forgey and Pine Ridge roads. The fire was burning in wheat stubble, bluegrass, and CRP ground and was pushed south by the wind.

Thanks to a brief rain and the fast response from local volunteers, the fire was contained quickly. A tractor with a disc was used to control the spread through stubble, while a volunteer-operated mini excavator was used to break apart burning hay bales. Once the bales burned down, crews were able to fully extinguish them.

As of early Friday morning, the fire was reported 100% contained. Mop-up operations are currently underway to secure the area and prevent rekindling.

No structures were reported damaged, and no injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
