PULLMAN, WA – A structure fire on NW Wayne Street early Monday morning was swiftly contained to a single apartment unit, thanks to the quick response of Pullman Firefighters and a fully staffed engine crew.

According to the department, the first engine on scene was staffed with three firefighters—an increase from the typical minimum of two. Officials say that third firefighter made a significant difference in the speed and effectiveness of the response, allowing for faster water deployment, better coordination, and increased safety.

No injuries were reported, and the fire did not spread beyond the initial unit.

Pullman Fire emphasized that the incident underscores the importance of adequate staffing levels that align with NFPA 1500 national standards, which recommend firefighter safety and operational readiness benchmarks.

“We’re working for you, protecting our community,” the department stated.
