CLARKSTON, WA – A 65-year-old man was arrested last Thursday after allegedly assaulting caregivers at a residential care facility in Clarkston, according to court documents.
Deputies responded around 9:21 p.m. on Thursday to Highly Preferred Care on 24th Street for a report of a disorderly person. According to the arrest affidavit, the suspect, William Paul Mistretta, had become aggressive with female caregivers and reportedly threw a glass at one of them, cutting her hand.
The caregiver sustained injuries from the broken glass and had difficulty stopping the bleeding. During the altercation, Mistretta also allegedly headbutted the caregiver, causing swelling to her face.
A facility manager told deputies he attempted to intervene and was pushed by Mistretta.
Mistretta was arrested at the scene and booked on charges of second-degree assault, a class B felony, and fourth-degree assault, a gross misdemeanor. The affidavit noted that deputies had been called to the facility multiple times in recent days due to Mistretta’s behavior, which reportedly included threats of violence, stealing items from the facility, and other disruptive acts.
Facility staff expressed ongoing concerns about the safety of employees and residents, stating Mistretta had become increasingly erratic.
As of Monday morning, Mistretta remained in custody at the Asotin County Jail. His bond was set at $25,000.
