LAPWAI, ID – On Sunday evening, August 3, Lapwai Volunteer Fire Department and Culdesac Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Lapwai Middle School.

Crews arrived on scene around 6:08 p.m. and discovered that a motor in the building’s HVAC system had seized and overheated, melting the power supply wires connected to the fan. Firefighters quickly shut off power to the unit. The smoke was contained within the cabinet of the fan motor, and no structural damage occurred.

Lapwai Fire responded with two engines and five personnel, while Culdesac Fire assisted with one engine and two personnel. No injuries were reported, and units remained on scene for approximately one hour.
