MOSES LAKE, WA – A Moses Lake man is in custody after his gun reportedly jammed and allowed his alleged victim to escape during a violent confrontation last Friday night, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
Luis Angel Ortega, 27, was arrested Tuesday morning around 10:30 a.m. following a multi-agency effort. He was booked into the Grant County Jail on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, and first-degree robbery.
The charges stem from a Friday night incident at a home near Moses Lake. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Ortega allegedly struck a man in the head with a handgun during a confrontation and then attempted to shoot him. The gun jammed, allowing the victim to escape and seek help.
The victim was later treated at a hospital for a head injury. He also reported that a gold necklace and bracelet were stolen during the attack.
Multiple law enforcement agencies worked together to locate Ortega. He was tracked to a location in Grant County and taken into custody during a traffic stop east of Moses Lake on Tuesday.
