MOSCOW, ID – The United Way of Moscow is expanding its School Lunch Debt Forgiveness Program in Latah County.
Last year, the group helped students pay their lunch debts at a handful of schools in Latah County. Now, the organization is committing to paying off accrued lunch debts at the Moscow School District, Palouse Prairie Charter School, Moscow Charter School, Genesee School District, Potlatch School District, and Whitepine Joint School District through a grant program targeting student lunch debt.
Roughly 39% of households in Latah County are classified as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) or below, making them vulnerable to unexpected costs, sending them into crisis.
