BOISE, ID– Governor Brad Little has approved the use of Idaho National Guard personnel to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with administrative and clerical tasks.
The move follows notification from U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth that governors in 20 states were authorized to activate up to 1,700 National Guard members to support ICE through November 15, 2025. Idaho’s allocation allows for up to 14 Guard members, with deployment expected within 30 days.
According to the governor’s office, the Idaho personnel will remain under state command while working directly with local ICE offices. Their duties will be federally funded under section 502(f) of Title 32 of the U.S. Code.
The intent of the assignment is to free ICE agents from administrative work so they can focus on law enforcement activities.
The Idaho National Guard regularly assists local, state, and federal agencies, including during natural disasters, drug interdiction operations, search and rescue missions, and other emergency responses
