COLFAX, WA – A St. John woman has died and three others were injured following a single-vehicle collision on Thorn Creek Road north of St. John on Saturday afternoon, according to the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the crash at approximately 4:30 p.m. on August 9, 2025. Investigators say a 2016 Ford Flex, driven by 76-year-old Teresa Leas of St. John, was traveling west when it left the roadway, struck a culvert, and became airborne before coming to rest on its wheels.
Teresa Leas and passenger Sonia Leas, 50, were airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center via LifeFlight. The other two occupants, Richard Leas and Austin Coniber, were transported to Whitman Community Hospital, treated for minor injuries, and released. Officials say Sonia Leas died from her injuries while being transported to Sacred Heart.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Family members have been notified.
