PULLMAN, WA – The swimming hole on the Palouse River at Laird Park North of Harvard is back open for the first time in two years.
Last summer the swimming hole was closed by the U.S. Forest Service because the small dam that backs up the water each season needed to be fixed. The dam was built in the 1930’s.
Local photojournalist Brett Hogaboam reports that the dam was repaired on Tuesday. Rangers, the Youth Conservation Corps and volunteers from the Boy Scouts Camp Grizzly fixed the dam. It took a couple of days for the swimming hole to fill up. Walking on top of the dam is prohibited.
