Murder Suspect Killed in Confrontation With Yakima Police

YAKIMA, WA – The Washington State Patrol is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday evening in Yakima.

On August 9, 2025, at approximately 7:39 p.m., Yakima Police officers made contact with a wanted homicide suspect near the intersection of East Walnut Avenue and 3rd Street. The suspect was connected to a homicide earlier that day in the 1200 block of West Washington Avenue.

According to Yakima Police, officers had located the homicide suspect’s vehicle and initiated a short pursuit. The vehicle was immobilized at East Walnut Avenue and 3rd Street. The passenger, identified as a 36-year-old male homicide suspect, fired at officers. Officers returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.

A Yakima Police officer was shot during the incident, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was treated at a hospital and released. The driver of the suspect vehicle was taken into custody with non-life-threatening injuries.

Earlier that day, at approximately 2:39 p.m., Yakima Police responded to reports of an assault with a weapon in the 1200 block of West Washington Avenue. Officers located two victims with apparent gunshot wounds. A 33-year-old female victim died from her injuries despite lifesaving efforts. A second victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The Washington State Patrol is leading the investigation. The homicide and officer-involved shooting investigations are ongoing.
