High-Speed Chase Ends Near Lewiston With PIT Maneuver, Arrest

LEWISTON, ID – A reckless driving report Tuesday afternoon ended with a vehicle fire, a Precision Immobilization Technique maneuver, and a DUI arrest, according to Idaho State Police.

At about 2:12 p.m. on Aug. 12, dispatchers began receiving reports of a red Toyota RAV4 driving recklessly. Troopers were advised the driver, 40-year-old Isaac Holmes, was wanted for felony domestic battery out of Idaho County before getting behind the wheel.

Troopers located the vehicle traveling west on U.S. Highway 12 and attempted a traffic stop. Holmes allgedly fled at a high rate of speed, circling back multiple times on the highway and driving into oncoming lanes in an attempt to evade arrest.

To protect other motorists, troopers executed a Precision Immobilization Technique, causing the RAV4 to spin out and crash on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 95 near the Clearwater River Casino. The vehicle caught fire, but troopers quickly put out the flames and arrested Holmes without further incident.

Troopers Stop Fleeing Driver Using PIT Technique

Holmes sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment. Police said Holmes’ blood alcohol concentration was more than twice the legal limit.

He faces potential charges of felony eluding, excessive driving under the influence, concealing a firearm while intoxicated, and having an open container of alcohol.

He was booked into the Nez Perce County Jail is is expected to make his initial court appearance on Wednesday.
