Five Deported Illegal Immigrants Charged After Returning to Eastern Washington

SPOKANE, WA – The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington announced that five individuals have been indicted on charges of Illegally Re-Entering the United States After Deportation.

All five individuals are Mexican nationals with prior criminal records, and each had previously been removed from the United States. Federal authorities noted that illegal re-entry is a criminal offense separate from civil immigration enforcement.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says the prosecutions are intended to deter future criminal conduct and disincentivize illegal entry or re-entry.

Investigations involved U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and other federal partners. The cases are being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Letitia A. Sikes.
