Sean Wells Named Next City Administrator for Pullman

PULLMAN, WA – The City of Pullman has announced that Sean Wells has been offered the position of City Administrator, bringing more than 29 years of experience in public service to the role.

Wells began his career in 1997 as a Senior Engineering Technician with the City of Issaquah, Washington. Over the years, he has held engineering and management positions with the City of Covington, Kitsap County, and the Cities of Federal Way, Kent, and Bellevue. He joined Pullman in 2023 as Public Works Director, overseeing 109 employees across Engineering, Maintenance & Operations, and Transit, and managing more than $50 million of the city’s biennial budget.

A Washington State University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Wells is also a licensed Professional Engineer in the state and an NCAA, WBSC, and USA Softball Fastpitch umpire.

“I’m excited to start this new chapter in my public service career,” Wells said, adding that he looks forward to working with city staff, the City Council, Mayor Francis Benjamin, local businesses, and the Pullman community.

Mayor Benjamin praised Wells’ leadership, noting his “thoughtful, measured, and compassionate” approach, as well as his broad support from both city staff and residents.

Wells’ appointment will go before the Pullman City Council for confirmation on August 26, 2025. If approved, he will begin his duties as City Administrator on September 16, 2025.
