NAMPA, ID – Two men from Florida were arrested in Nampa after police say they attempted to carry out a multi-state fraud scheme involving counterfeit money and Home Depot stores.

According to the Nampa Police Department, the arrests occurred on August 11, 2025, after detectives were alerted by Boise Police investigators and local Home Depot loss prevention staff about a suspected traveling fraud group in the Treasure Valley. Officers located the suspects’ vehicle at the Nampa Home Depot and confirmed they were inside the store.

Investigators say the suspects were purchasing large quantities of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors with counterfeit bills, then returning the items to other Home Depot locations in exchange for legitimate currency. Similar transactions had reportedly taken place in California, Nevada, and Oregon, totaling thousands of dollars.

During the arrest, police seized more than $10,000 in counterfeit currency from the suspects’ vehicle.

The suspects, identified as 31-year-old Deyonta Larico Moore and 31-year-old Tomenual Lathelton Banks, face charges including burglary, criminal conspiracy, grand theft, possession of a forged check, and conspiracy to manufacture documents to show Idaho residency.

Nampa Police Chief Joe Huff credited the collaboration between law enforcement and retail security in stopping the suspects before they could target more victims in Idaho. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are possible.
