CLARKSTON, WA – A Clarkston woman is facing several felony charges after police say she attempted to use a stolen credit card at a local hotel and was later found with stolen mail, keys, and financial documents belonging to numerous victims.
According to an affidavit filed by the Clarkston Police Department, officers responded to RiverTree Inn on August 13 after staff reported that 39-year-old Ladonna Rae Maben was trying to pay for a room with a credit card that had previously been reported stolen. When contacted by officers, Maben claimed she had permission to use the card and presented another card in her name that she said looked similar. Investigators said the credit card had in fact been stolen months earlier, and the rightful cardholder reported that Maben had also taken mail, tools, keys, and other property from a residence in Culdesac.
Maben was taken into custody at the hotel and transported to the Asotin County Jail. A search of her belongings reportedly revealed additional cards bearing the same victim’s name. Later, hotel staff turned over a backpack, a Walmart bag, and three purses connected to Maben, which investigators said contained a significant amount of stolen property. Officers documented mail and financial documents linked to at least 26 different victims, along with approximately 109 keys ranging from car and house keys to storage and security keys. A glass pipe with white residue, believed to be drug-related, was also recovered.
Police said Maben gave conflicting explanations, at times insisting she had multiple identities and that some of the property belonged to family members. Investigators determined she had no legitimate connection to the victims or businesses tied to the stolen items.
Maben has been charged with identity theft in the second degree, theft in the second degree, and possession of stolen property in the second degree. The case remains under investigation as authorities continue documenting and processing the large volume of recovered items, including stolen mail.
