Idaho State Police Release Records in Kohberger Homicide Case

MERIDIAN, ID – The Idaho State Police (ISP) has released public records from the 2022 Moscow homicide investigation, which resulted in the conviction of Bryan Kohberger in July 2025.

The newly available records include police reports produced by ISP. Officials stated that additional materials will be added as they are reviewed and approved for release.

The investigation began in November 2022 after the murders of University of Idaho students Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin at an off-campus home in Moscow. A coordinated effort involving local, state, and federal agencies led to Kohberger’s arrest on December 30, 2022. He was later charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary.

Kohberger pleaded guilty, and on July 23, 2025, he was sentenced to four consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole, plus a 10-year fixed term for burglary.

According to ISP, investigative records generated by other agencies remain under the custody of those agencies. This includes materials from the Moscow Police Department, Latah County Sheriff’s Office, Latah County Prosecutor’s Office, Pennsylvania State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pullman Police Department, University of Idaho, and Washington State University. Requests for those records must be directed to the appropriate agency.
