Washington Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash on Highway 12 Near Lowell

LOWELL, ID – A Washington man died Friday afternoon after his motorcycle went off the roadway along U.S. Highway 12 east of Lowell.

According to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received two SOS alerts on August 15 around 1:40 p.m.—one through a text-to-911 system and another via a Garmin emergency activation. Both alerts contained only location data, which plotted to milepost 115.5, roughly 18 miles east of Lowell.

Deputies responding to the area found a motorcycle and its rider down an embankment about 40 feet from the road. CPR was started by deputies and later continued by medical personnel, but the rider did not survive.

Idaho County Coroner Cody Funke identified the victim as 54-year-old Jason Short of Kenmore, Washington.

Authorities expressed condolences to Short’s family and friends.
