LEWISTON, ID – As thousands gather in the Lewiston area this weekend for Hot August Nights, law enforcement agencies are boosting patrols to help keep the community safe.
The Idaho State Police, Lewiston Police Department, and Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office announced that beginning Thursday night and continuing through Saturday, additional officers will be on duty in and around the annual classic car show.
Authorities said the increased presence will focus on stopping impaired driving and other unsafe behaviors that put the public at risk.
“We want everyone to enjoy the event, but that starts with making safe choices,” said Captain Mooney of the Idaho State Police. “If you plan to drink, then also plan ahead for a sober ride home. Choosing to drive impaired can have lifelong consequences — it’s not worth it.”
The public is also encouraged to assist by reporting impaired or unsafe drivers to *ISP (*477).
