ST. JOE, ID – Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal vehicle fire that occurred Sunday afternoon on Reeds Creek Road in Benewah County.

The incident was reported at 1:12 p.m. on August 24. According to authorities, the driver, a 60-year-old man from St. Maries, sustained serious injuries and was transported by life flight to an area hospital.

Two juvenile passengers were also in the vehicle. One was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the other, who did not appear to have any injuries, was released to a responsible adult.

The cause of the crash and subsequent fire remains under investigation. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours as officials processed the scene but has since reopened to normal traffic.

Idaho State Police confirmed that next of kin have been notified.
