AAA: Idaho Gas Prices Slip Two Cents Ahead of Labor Day

BOISE, ID – Idaho gas prices dipped slightly this week, with the state average falling by two cents to $3.49 per gallon for regular fuel, according to AAA Idaho. While prices are marginally higher than a month ago, they remain eight cents lower than this time last year.

The national average is $3.16 per gallon, about three cents more than last week, unchanged from a month ago, and 19 cents cheaper than a year ago. Idaho continues to rank among the costliest states for fuel, sitting seventh nationwide, with California leading at $4.56 per gallon.

“We’ll take ‘calm,’ but we may flip the script later this week as people start fueling up for Labor Day travel,” said AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “Given the strong turnout for the past several holidays, we don’t see Labor Day breaking the pattern of very busy roads”.

Crude oil prices are also inching upward. West Texas Intermediate is trading near $65 per barrel, $1.50 higher than a week ago and equal to last month’s price. A recent Energy Information Administration report showed a six-million-barrel drop in crude oil inventories, raising the potential for further price increases if demand surges.

Conde noted that moderate gasoline demand and refineries operating near 97% of capacity helped stabilize prices last week. “Anything that alleviates pressure in the supply chain could bring savings at the pump this week or at least help offset any late-summer spikes,” he said.
