ASOTIN, WA – The Asotin Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run collision that occurred Thursday morning near a school in Asotin.

According to a release from Chief Monte Renzelman, the incident happened at about 11:13 a.m. when a white Dodge pickup traveling eastbound on 1st Street left the roadway, drove over the curb, crossed the sidewalk and grass, and struck a bike rack in front of the school. The impact caused significant damage to the passenger side of the truck.

The driver fled the scene, continuing east on 1st Street and then south on 2nd Street before the vehicle was lost from sight. School staff moved students to a safe location and called law enforcement. Staff also recorded the truck’s license plate number, which aided in the investigation.

Police later located the vehicle abandoned at an address in Asotin. Investigators say the driver left the truck and was picked up by another individual before fleeing the area. As of late Thursday afternoon, the driver remined at large.

No students or staff were injured during the incident. Police said they have identified a person of interest.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Asotin Police Department at 509-758-2331.
