PULLMAN, WA The Pullman Police Department is reminding residents that city code prohibits the use of indoor furniture outdoors. According to Pullman City Code, furnishings such as couches, recliners, or other items designed for indoor use cannot be placed on porches, lawns, or in yards.

Police noted that while it may seem like a quirky rule, the restriction is part of the city’s Nuisance Control Code (Chapter 5.01). Officials said violations are considered civil infractions and may result in fines. Beyond being a code violation, police added that outdoor placement of indoor furniture can frustrate neighbors and detract from community appearance.

The department closed its message with appreciation for residents’ cooperation, saying, “Thanks for doing your part, Pullman!”
