Heat Warnings Issued for Inland Northwest Through Thursday

LEWISTON, ID – The National Weather Service has issued heat-related warnings covering much of the Inland Northwest as above-average temperatures continue this week.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for a region that includes the Lewiston – Clarkston area, Lower Garfield and Asotin counties, Pomeroy, Lapwai, Peck, Culdesac, Gifford and surrounding areas. The warning remains in place until 8 p.m. Thursday. Forecasters said temperatures will range from 96 to 106 degrees, creating dangerous conditions.

The National Weather Service said hot weather will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, noting that almost everyone without adequate cooling or hydration could be impacted.

A Heat Advisory also remains in effect for an area that includes Orofino, Grangeville region and the Lower Hells Canyon/Salmon River region until 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The National Weather Service advises residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, remain out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.

Forecast high temperatures for Tuesday include Lewiston at 103, Pullman at 98, Orofino at 106, and Grangeville at 96.
