WATCH: Deputy Injured While Stopping DUI Suspect in North Idaho

KELLOGG, ID – A vehicle pursuit involving the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office and the Kellogg Police Department ended Monday at the Cataldo boat launch after the suspect allegedly attempted to strike an officer head-on.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Kellogg Police first observed the vehicle traveling at reckless speeds in the city. The driver continued to endanger the public during the pursuit, nearly colliding with civilian and police vehicles.

The chase proceeded to the Cataldo boat launch, where officials say the suspect turned around and accelerated toward a Kellogg officer. To prevent a collision, a sheriff’s deputy struck the vehicle on the driver’s side, forcing it into nearby rocks and bringing the pursuit to an end.

The deputy sustained injuries during the incident and was transported by ambulance to a hospital. Authorities reported the injuries were not life-threatening, and the deputy is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect was taken into custody and faces charges including felony eluding, two counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement, and driving under the influence.

The Sheriff’s Office noted its appreciation for the responding officers’ actions in protecting the public during the incident.
