SPOKANE, WA – A 29-year-old Idaho fugitive was taken into custody in Spokane on Wednesday evening following a coordinated law enforcement response.
According to the Spokane Police Department, detectives with the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) acted on information from the Liberty Lake Police Department and Idaho authorities indicating that Colton Hite was hiding in Spokane. Hite was wanted on an extraditable felony warrant from Idaho for parole violations stemming from an assault conviction. Liberty Lake officials had also filed affidavits charging him with multiple counts of unlawful imprisonment, reckless endangerment, and attempting to elude police.
SIU investigators identified a potential address in the 900 block of West Maxwell and learned that Hite was possibly armed and had expressed a refusal to return to prison. At approximately 6:30 p.m., Spokane officers surrounded the residence with assistance from SPD SWAT, hostage negotiators, and the Air Support Unit.
Hite was contacted in the yard of the residence and surrendered without incident. Police said he was unarmed at the time of arrest.
He was transported to the Spokane County Jail and booked on the Idaho warrant as well as new charges in Washington, including attempting to elude a police vehicle, two counts of unlawful imprisonment, and two counts of reckless endangerment.
