MOSCOW, ID – Gritman Medical Center announced the retirement of Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Mari Timlin, R.N., who has led the organization’s nursing staff since 2021.

Timlin, who first joined Gritman as an interim CNO in the midst of the pandemic, quickly became a permanent and trusted leader, bringing more than 20 years of experience to the role. Over the past four years, she has been recognized for her approachable leadership style, commitment to collaboration, and dedication to strengthening communication across the hospital.

Among her key contributions, Timlin launched Gritman’s Daily Safety Huddle, a standing meeting of hospital leaders designed to improve transparency, safety, and coordination. She was known for knowing nearly every clinical staff member by name, and her leadership helped foster a culture of trust and support within the organization.

Reflecting on her career, Timlin described nursing as a multifaceted profession, noting that nurses serve as “educators, leaders, advocates, researchers, scientists,” and remain central to health care innovation and policy. “They are the cornerstone of health care; their power lies in their amazing ability to connect with patients,” she said.

Gritman President and CEO Kara Besst praised Timlin for her contributions. “Your leadership and dedication have been inspiring. You have built and supported your team in remarkable ways,” Besst said, wishing Timlin well as she begins her retirement.

Timlin plans to divide her time between Colorado, Europe, and Ireland, traveling and spending time with her husband, family, and friends. She passes her role to longtime Gritman Specialty Clinic Director Edie Wade, R.N., who will continue the hospital’s patient-centered approach.

Gritman Medical Center, a nonprofit critical access hospital, has provided care to the region for more than 125 years and is ranked among the top 100 private companies in Idaho.
