CHEHALIS, WA  – Authorities responded Thursday afternoon to a plane crash involving an experimental aircraft near the Chehalis River and State Route 6.

According to the Chehalis Police Department, officers were dispatched around 12:14 p.m. to reports of a possible crash in the area of the Chehalis River Bridge. When they arrived, they found that an experimental aircraft had gone down in a nearby field.

The pilot, a 55-year-old man, was rescued and treated by the Chehalis Fire Department before being transported for additional medical care. Officials stated that drugs or alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the crash. No other individuals were on board.

State Route 6 was closed for approximately two hours while emergency crews worked at the scene. Agencies assisting in the response included the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, and the Department of Corrections.

The incident remains under investigation, and no further details have been released at this time.
