PAYETTE COUNTY, ID – The Payette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal road rage incident that occurred Monday morning on Sand Hollow Road.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident involved two vehicles with two male drivers. The vehicles came to a stop on Sand Hollow Road, south of Black Canyon Road. What happened next remains under investigation, but the confrontation ended with one driver shooting the other with a handgun.
The driver who was shot died from his injuries. The other driver, identified as the shooter, has been detained. Authorities said they are not aware of any further risk to the community.
Officials said the names of those involved will be released later.
The Payette County Sheriff’s Office reported that it is working with the Payette Police Department, Fruitland Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Idaho State Police on the case.
The shooting was first reported around 9:10 a.m. Monday. Law enforcement asked the public to avoid Sand Hollow Road between SE 8th and Black Canyon Road, with traffic in the area being diverted to I-84.
The investigation is ongoing.
