LE MARS, IA – Luke West wrapped up the best tournament of his career on Tuesday to tie for ninth at the prestigious Northwest Iowa Invitational. The junior led the No. 19 LC State Men’s Golf team to a sixth-place finish and earned all-tournament honors.
The Warriors finished with a 6-under, 846, three strokes ahead of No. 23 Science & Arts (Okla.) and eight ahead of No. 17 Northwestern (Iowa). They also beat out No. 13 The Master’s (Calif.) and No. 10 Friends (Kan.).
“The men struggled to put it together today,” coach Zach Anderson said. “They battled, but it was a different position for this team to be in and we will only grow from it. We got to compete and kept up with some of the best teams in the nation. We proved that we can play with them and we put the nation on notice which was our goal. Luke was solid all week and his all-tournament honors are well deserved.”
West followed up his career-best round of 69-66 on Monday with a 1-over, 72 in the final round. He tied for ninth in the field of 74 with a three-round total of 6-under, 207. The mark is a career-best three-round tournament score and best finish for the junior.
Sophomore Lucas Ortega was the definition of consistency with a score of 70 in each round for a two-day total of 3-under, 210. He tied for 14th overall. Sondre Andresen was two strokes behind at 1-under, 212 after a 1-over, 72 on Tuesday. He tied for 23rd with rounds of 71-69-72.
Aaron Brown closed out his LC State debut with a round of 75 to tie for 55th. His rounds of 74-71-75 totaled a 7-over, 220. Freshman Adam Lovatt finished tied for 63rd with rounds of 78-68-77 for a 10-over, 223. His second-round score of 68 was the second-lowest for LC State in the tournament.
