No Change In White Pine Fire-1,045 Acres-10% Contained-USFS Spending 1.5 Million Dollars A Day Fighting The Fire

POTLATCH, ID – There’s still no change in the status of the White Pine Fire burning in North Latah County.

The blaze remains at 10% containment which was first reached a week and a half ago although the U.S. Forest Service says crews are making “excellent progress.” Federal officials continue to expect to see an increase in containment in the coming days.

The fire hasn’t grown for several days as it remains at 1,045 acres. The USFS is now spending about 1.5 million dollars a day trying to put out the flames. Total cost of fighting the fire has reached 10.5 million dollars.

The fire started last month. The cause of the fire remains unknown. There are nearly 500 personnel assigned to the White Pine Fire. The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest in the fire zone remains closed.
