LEWISTON, ID – The Lewiston Police Department has released further details following a homicide-suicide that occurred Sunday evening.

On September 14th, 2025, at approximately 8:12 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence in the 3700 block of 11th Street. When officers arrived, they found 46-year-old Melissa Hammond deceased from multiple gunshot wounds and a 54-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the head.

The man, identified as Eugene Grende of Clarkston, was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center but later died in the early morning hours of September 15.

Investigators determined Grende had been involved in a dispute with residents of the home that escalated to violence. Police say Grende shot Hammond multiple times before turning the gun on himself. Detectives emphasized that the case involved acquaintances and was not related to domestic violence.
