Man Arrested on Grand Theft Charges at Lewiston Bus Stop

LEWISTON, ID – A man has been charged with multiple felony counts of grand theft after police say he was found with stolen property during an investigation on Wednesday.

According to documents filed in Nez Perce County Court, Michael K. Damon, 29, was arrested on September 17, 2025, and faces three felony counts of Grand Theft by Receiving or Possessing Stolen Property.

The case began on Tuesday when Lewiston Police responded to a burglary report at a residence on Park Street. The homeowner told officers that she accidentally left her garage open and discovered her high-end mountain bike, valued at $3,000, was missing.

The following morning, officers were dispatched to the bus stop at Lincoln Street and G Street after receiving a report of a man with a stolen backpack. Police made contact with Damon, who matched the description provided. He was allegedly found with a black backpack and the stolen bicycle.

Investigators say the backpack contained items belonging to another victim, including financial transaction cards. Officers also recovered an iPhone from Damon’s pocket that had been reported stolen in a separate case. The phone’s lock screen displayed a message identifying it as lost property.

Damon was read his Miranda Rights and detained at the scene.  He was then booked into the Nez Perce County Jail on suspicion of grand theft and criminal possession of financial transaction cards.

Court records show Damon now faces three felony counts of grand theft by receiving or possessing stolen property.  He is expected to make his initial court appearance on Thursday afternoon.
