PULLMAN, WA – There will be intermittent fireworks at every Washington State University home football game this season but there will not be a large postgame fireworks show.
The issue was brought to light by Pullman City Councilman Nathan Weller this summer. Councilman Weller told council that several of his constituents on College Hill have been negatively affected by the booms from fireworks at Cougar football and baseball games.
Councilman Weller proposed that the city help publicize when there will be WSU Athletics fireworks on College Hill.
He believes that broader announcements about the displays will help those effected by the noise prepare for the disruption. City staff have not moved on Weller’s request to help announce College Hill WSU fireworks. City of Pullman spokeswoman Meghan Ferrin tells Pullman Radio News that staff are not publicizing WSU fireworks because there was no direction from council as a whole.
WSU Athletics is increasing their efforts to publicize football fireworks. The department has posted on social media that proximity fireworks and percussion rounds will be fired when the football team runs on the field before the game. The devices will also be shot off after Cougar touchdowns and field goals. There will not be a full postgame fireworks display this season. Last season there was a full show close to midnight after the Cougars defeated San Jose State University in double overtime.
The City of Pullman bans the discharge of personal fireworks except for the 4th of July and New Year’s. WSU is exempt from the Pullman fireworks ban.
The 2025 football schedule with fireworks/percussion rounds include:
