STEPTOE, WA – The iconic Steptoe Butte North of Colfax is set to reopen late next month.
The state park has been closed most of the year since February’s flood caused damage at the recreational site. The Washington State Parks Department was already set to close the park from late May into October this year for a paving project. The agency kept the park closed since last winter’s flood.
Crews have been working for months to repave the road to the top of the scenic butte. Officials in Olympia are now reporting that the park should reopen in late October. A specific date for reopening Steptoe Butte State Park hasn’t been set yet.
