BOISE, ID – Idaho’s average gas price saw only a slight increase this week, but drivers in parts of the state are facing larger jumps at the pump, according to AAA Idaho.
The state average for regular fuel is now $3.52 per gallon, up a penny from last week. While prices in Boise remain steady at $3.53, Eastern Idaho communities like Idaho Falls and Pocatello are up six cents per gallon. Twin Falls and Coeur d’Alene each rose three cents, while Franklin recorded the largest spike at eight cents.
“It’s been turbulent filling up this past couple of weeks,” said AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “Now that petroleum products are moving again through the Olympic Pipeline from Washington State into Oregon, we hope that supply chain stability and cooling temperatures will translate to savings at the pump.”
Nationally, the average gas price also rose a penny to $3.18 per gallon. Idaho remains the eighth most expensive state for fuel, though both state and national averages are slightly lower than this time last year.
According to the Energy Information Administration, U.S. crude oil supplies fell by nine million barrels this week. West Texas Intermediate crude is holding near $62 per barrel, flat compared to last week but about $1 lower than a month ago. Analysts warn that tighter crude supplies could push prices higher.
Conde noted that the seasonal switch to winter-blend gasoline may bring relief, but cautioned that hurricane activity and other market factors could still influence fuel costs.
As of September 22, average gas prices in Idaho are:
- Boise – $3.53
- Coeur d’Alene – $3.59
- Franklin – $3.36
- Idaho Falls – $3.40
- Lewiston – $3.51
- Pocatello – $3.44
- Rexburg – $3.46
- Twin Falls – $3.46
