Four Soldiers Identified After Fatal Aviation Mishap in Western Washington

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — The U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) has identified four soldiers who lost their lives in an aviation training accident on September 17. Among them were two service members from Washington state: Sgt. Donavon Scott, 24, of Tacoma, and Sgt. Jadalyn Good, 23, of Mount Vernon.

Also killed were Chief Warrant Officer Three Andrew Cully, 35, of Sparta, Missouri, and Chief Warrant Officer Three Andrew Kraus, 39, of Sanibel, Florida. All four were members of the 4th Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), known as the Night Stalkers.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we confirm the loss of four courageous Night Stalkers … who tragically lost their lives on Sept. 17th during a training mission,” said Col. Stephen Smith, the battalion’s commander. “These exceptional warriors … embodied the unwavering dedication, selflessness, and excellence that define the very spirit of the Army and Army Special Operations. Their sacrifice in service to our nation will forever be etched in our hearts and in the legacy of the Night Stalkers”.

Both Sgt. Scott and Sgt. Good had served as MH-60 Black Hawk crew chiefs with C Company at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington. Each had accumulated more than 700 flight hours and participated in both domestic and overseas training and operational missions.

USASOC expressed gratitude to local and state agencies in Washington who supported the recovery efforts, including the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, Griffin Fire Department, McLane Black Lake Fire Department, King County Sheriff’s Office, Lacey Fire Department, Olympia Fire Department, and the Washington Department of Natural Resources.

The cause of the mishap remains under investigation.
