Governor Creates Idaho Advanced Nuclear Energy Task Force

IDAHO FALLS, ID – Governor Brad Little signed Executive Order 2025-06 on Monday establishing the Idaho Advanced Nuclear Energy Task Force. The order was signed at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and is intended to position Idaho as a continued leader in nuclear energy research and development.

The new task force replaces the former Leadership in Nuclear Energy (LINE) Commission. Its role will include advising the Governor on nuclear policy issues such as spent nuclear fuel, energy resiliency, legislative and regulatory reforms, workforce development, and opportunities for public-private partnerships. It will also coordinate with INL, universities, utilities, and federal agencies.

Membership will be capped at 20 individuals appointed by the Governor. Participants may include representatives from state offices, INL, the Idaho Public Utilities Commission, private-sector nuclear industries, higher education, local governments, tribal governments, and the state legislature.

The announcement took place during the Western Governors’ Association workshop in Idaho Falls. Federal officials including U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin attended related events highlighting energy policy discussions.

The task force will provide annual reports to the Governor with updates and recommendations regarding nuclear innovation and deployment in Idaho.
