PULLMAN, WA — Washington State University has once again claimed victory in the Boeing Apple Cup Food Pantry Challenge, outpacing the University of Washington for the second consecutive year.
This year’s competition brought in a combined total of $19,626 for campus food pantries. WSU secured $12,677 through 113 gifts, while UW raised $6,949 from 87 contributions.
Camille Vaughn, director of development in WSU Student Affairs, said the challenge not only raised critical funds but also highlighted the issue of food insecurity among students. She emphasized that contributions of all sizes—ranging from $5 to $1,000—collectively made a difference.
“By including all WSU campuses this year, we recognized that this is a statewide issue,” Vaughn said. “The results this year are truer to the spirit of the challenge, and we cannot thank the Coug community enough.”
During the 2024–25 academic year, WSU’s food pantries supported more than 58,000 student visits. The Pullman pantry alone distributed an average of 25,000 pounds of food each month.
University officials encouraged those who missed the event to continue supporting WSU’s pantries year-round. Donations can be made through the WSU Foundation website.
