Idaho, Taiwan Flour Millers Sign $1.2 Billion Wheat Deal

BOISE, ID – Idaho officials and representatives from Taiwan’s flour milling industry formalized a major agricultural agreement this week at the State Capitol.

Lieutenant Governor Scott Bedke joined leaders from the Idaho wheat industry and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Seattle for a signing ceremony, confirming the Taiwan Flour Mills Association’s intent to purchase U.S. wheat valued at $1.2 billion over the next three years.

“This $1.2 billion wheat deal underscores the strength of Idaho’s long-term relationship with Taiwan and the value of our state’s world-class agricultural products,” Bedke said, noting the agreement highlights both crop quality and the importance of international partnerships to Idaho’s economy.

Idaho State Department of Agriculture Director Chanel Tewalt, TFMA Chairman Wei-Chang Chang, Director General Mei-Chen Lin, and Idaho Wheat Commission Chairman Cory Kress also attended the ceremony. Tewalt called the deal “a major win for Idaho agriculture and a testament to the strong partnerships we share with Taiwan.”

Kress emphasized Taiwan’s long-standing trust in Idaho wheat, saying the partnership represents “the strength and trust in our collaboration” and that growers look forward to its continuation.

The U.S. wheat industry has worked closely with Taiwan for more than 40 years. Taiwan is the sixth-largest market for U.S. wheat, and in 2024 alone imported nearly $3.7 billion worth of U.S. farm products.
