MOSCOW, ID — The Latah County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that an inmate housed at the county jail has died following a medical emergency earlier this month.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, on September 16 deputies discovered the inmate unresponsive in their cell. Life-saving measures were initiated immediately, and Emergency Medical Services responded to continue treatment. The individual was transported to the hospital, where they remained in critical condition for several days.

Officials said the inmate was later taken off life support at the request of their next of kin and subsequently passed away. Out of respect for the family, authorities stated that no further details about the inmate’s identity or circumstances will be released.

The Idaho State Police has taken over the investigation into the incident.
