Whitman Elementary Recognized as a Model Professional Learning Community at Work®

LEWISTON, ID — Whitman Elementary has been honored by Solution Tree as a Model Professional Learning Community (PLC) at Work®, joining a select group of about 600 schools and districts in the United States and Canada to receive this distinction.

The recognition highlights the school’s sustained success in improving student achievement through the PLC at Work® process, which emphasizes ongoing, job-embedded learning for educators. The framework is built around three core principles: focusing on student learning, building a collaborative culture, and maintaining a results-oriented approach.

Former Principal Amy Arlint credited the staff’s dedication for the recognition. “Being recognized as a PLC Model School shows the hard work and the teamwork Whitman staff puts in every day for the students who walk through our doors and reflects the commitment of supporting all learners through collaboration,” Arlint said.

To achieve this honor, schools must demonstrate a consistent commitment to PLC practices for at least three years, provide evidence of measurable improvements in student learning, and submit their strategies and cultural practices for review by the PLC Review Committee.

Champions of PLC at Work® praised Whitman Elementary’s efforts, noting that recognized schools “have shown a sustained commitment to helping all of their students achieve at high levels” and have been willing to change organizational structures and culture to support that mission.

Whitman Elementary now stands as an example for other schools pursuing the PLC at Work® model of professional growth and student achievement.
