LEWISTON, ID – No. 12 College of Idaho spoiled the final day of LC State’s Fall Frenzy & Family Weekend, presented by Sparklight, with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 26-24) sweep of No. 17 LC State Volleyball on Saturday. The LC Valley showed up all weekend to support the Warriors with a staggering 1,392 fans in the stands on Saturday and nearly 2,500 total over the weekend.
The loss moves LC State to 9-2 on the season and 6-2 in Cascade Conference play.
“All the credit goes to College of Idaho tonight,” coach Katie Palmer said. “They were efficient, steady and played at a really high level from start to finish. They out-hit us .284 to .138. While the result wasn’t what we wanted, I was really proud of the energy in our gym. Warrior fans once again showed up in force and created a great atmosphere for our student-athletes. We’ll use this weekend as an opportunity to grow and get better moving forward in an extremely competitive Cascade Conference.”
HOW IT HAPPENED
After kills by Juliauna Forgach Aguilar and Abby Beaton gave the Warriors an early 5-3 edge in the first set, the Yotes took control of the frame. Teagan Scott tallied a kill before a block assist with Karissa Lindner, then C of I scored seven straight points for a 12-7 lead. Kills by Taylor Boyce, Scott, Forgach Aguilar and Alba Carpena brought LC State within three at 15-12, but large runs by the Yotes ended the set 25-15.
An ace by Makenzie Stout and kills by Forgach Aguilar and Lindner had LC in front 4-2 to start the second set before a back-and-forth battled ensued. A block by Lindner and Scott and kills by Boyce kept the Warriors in the lead until a five-point burst by College of Idaho gave C of I the momentum. A kill by Forgach Aguilar had LC within one late at 21-20, but a run of four by the Yotes closed out the 25-20 frame.
The Warriors held a slim margin in the first half of the third set.
