BOISE, ID – Idaho drivers are seeing some relief at the pump this week, with average gas prices dropping three cents to $3.49 per gallon of regular fuel, according to AAA. That price is a penny higher than a month ago but the same as this time last year.
Nationally, the average price sits at $3.13, down five cents from a week ago, seven cents from last month, and eight cents from a year ago. Idaho continues to rank eighth in the nation for the highest fuel costs.
AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde noted that the shift to winter-blend gasoline could bring further price reductions, though refinery maintenance and potential repairs may influence supply. “Hopefully, hurricane season will also continue to cooperate in cheaper prices,” Conde said.
The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is trading near $63 per barrel, up about a dollar from last week. Stable oil prices could help maintain or even reduce fuel costs if demand weakens. Meanwhile, OPEC+ is considering a possible increase in oil production in November, which could further ease crude prices and, in turn, gas prices.
Average prices in Idaho’s metro areas as of September 29 are:
- Boise: $3.51
- Coeur d’Alene: $3.56
- Franklin: $3.40
- Idaho Falls: $3.31
- Lewiston: $3.46
- Pocatello: $3.38
- Rexburg: $3.43
- Twin Falls: $3.45
