LEWISTON, ID – Idaho Fish and Game hatchery crews will be busy in October, stocking thousands of rainbow trout in lakes, reservoirs, and ponds throughout the Clearwater Region. The effort is part of a statewide release of more than 300,000 catchable-sized trout this month.

Among the largest local stockings, Winchester Lake will receive 12,000 rainbow trout. The popular state park site offers docks, fishing platforms, camping facilities, and wildlife viewing opportunities, making it a year-round destination for anglers and families.

Spring Valley Reservoir near Troy is scheduled for 9,200 trout. The site includes fishing docks, a boat ramp, and accessible shoreline paths, while also serving as a stop on the Idaho Birding Trail.

Moose Creek Reservoir, with its timbered setting and nine fishing docks, will be stocked with 6,500 trout. Gas motors are not permitted, making it a favorite for kayaks, float tubes, and shore anglers.

Elk Creek Reservoir near Orofino is slated for 3,000 trout, with four docks and a boat ramp offering convenient access. Deyo Reservoir near Weippe will see 4,000 stocked trout, with multiple docks, peninsulas, and a maintained trail around the water.

Smaller community waters will also be included. Lewiston’s Kiwanis Park Pond will receive 900 trout, while Spicer Pond near St. Maries (1,600 trout) and Steamboat Pond along the North Fork Coeur d’Alene River (1,125 trout) are on the October schedule. Deer Creek Reservoir near Elk River is slated for 2,100 trout.

For anglers looking for a mix of convenience and family-friendly settings, these stocked locations provide a chance to fish close to home. Youth under 14 can fish for free, while adult anglers must have a valid Idaho fishing license.
