HARTLINE, WA – A live hand grenade discovered by a three-year-old boy in his family’s front yard was safely disposed of by the Washington State Patrol bomb squad Monday evening.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the boy brought the grenade inside to his parents, who immediately called 911 around 6:45 p.m. Patrol deputies requested assistance from the WSP bomb squad.
Bomb technicians confirmed the device was live and carefully transported it to a rural area north of Hartline for safe disposal. Authorities identified the grenade as a type used during the Second World War, which appeared to have been exposed to the elements for some time.
It remains unclear how the grenade ended up in the family’s yard or how long it had been there. No injuries were reported.
