Idaho Students Invited to Name a Snowplow This Fall

BOISE, ID – The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is once again inviting classrooms across the state to take part in its “Name a Snowplow” contest. Following a successful pilot last year, ITD is expanding the program to include all 6th through 12th grade classrooms.

The contest aims to promote snowplow safety, encourage community involvement, and teach future drivers how to share the road safely during winter conditions. Each classroom may submit one name, limited to 15 characters, by October 31, 2025.

In November, ITD employees will vote on the submissions, selecting 12 winning names—two from each of the department’s six districts. The chosen names will be announced in December, with winning classrooms receiving recognition and a special visit from the snowplow bearing their chosen name.

Last year’s winners included creative entries such as The Berminator, Plowabunga!, and NoMoreMr.IceGuy.

More details, including submission forms and snowplow safety resources for teachers, are available at itd.idaho.gov .
