Traffic Stop Near Lapwai Leads to Alleged Narcotics Seizure and Arrest on Warrants

LAPWAI, ID — Nez Perce Tribal Police reported that an early morning traffic stop on Wednesday, October 1, led to the seizure of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia, along with the arrest of a passenger wanted on multiple warrants.

According to the department, officers were dispatched around 3:00 a.m. to the Clearwater River Casino after receiving a report of suspected narcotics activity. Before police arrived, the suspect vehicle, described as a white Ford Mustang, left the casino and headed toward Lapwai.

Tribal Police located the vehicle near the intersection of Red Duck Lane and Thunder Valley Drive and initiated a traffic stop. During the contact, officers determined that the passenger had several active warrants through both the Nez Perce Tribe and Nez Perce County.

A search of the Mustang uncovered fentanyl and related paraphernalia, police said. The passenger was taken into custody on the outstanding warrants. Additional tribal charges related to the narcotics discovery have been submitted and remain under review.

The Nez Perce Tribal Police Department emphasized in its release that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
