UW Student Enters Not Guilty Plea in Alleged Shooting of WSU Football Player After the Apple Cup

PULLMAN, WA – A 20-year-old University of Washington student accused of shooting a WSU football player at a party in Pullman after the Apple Cup was back in court on October 10, where he pled not guilty to all charges.

Jakori Buchanan of the Seattle area was arrested in King County just two days after he allegedly shot 19-year-old Sone Falealo on September 21.

Pullman Police investigators believe the incident began when Buchanan allegedly assaulted a woman at the party. As Buchanan and his cousin were being removed from the apartment, he reportedly struck Falealo in the head with a handgun twice and then shot him in the abdomen. Buchanan and his cousin then fled the scene to King County in a rental car.
Falealo has since been released from the hospital and is currently recovering.

Buchanan faces charges of first-degree felony assault, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Buchanan will be back in court for a readiness hearing on November 21 before his trial, which begins on December 8.
